DIY: Vicki's Kitchen Backsplash

Did you ever wonder what a tile designer would pick for her own kitchen backsplash? Vicki Nederostek has been designing tile projects with H.Winter & Co. for over 7 years. She choose silver slate for the majority of her backsplash with antique pewter decos to add a touch of luxury to the rustic tumbled slate. To highlight her cooktop and hood she added the texture of Mocha Onyx, a highly shaded and veined tile, to add dramatic appeal and the ledger stone defines the space elegantly. The pewter diamonds give the eyes a place to rest amongst the drama of the Mocha Onyx.

Vicki and her husband Stephen tackled their backsplash together and have lived to tell the tale! Stephen glued the tile, Vicki navigated the wetsaw, and they grouted it together.

  1. My applause to Jennifer for posting this wonderful blog that shows Vicki and H. Winter showroom artistry in designing tile project. How I really want to have my kitchen this type of tiles. Which I’ve also seen at Kitchen Design Bucks County. I’ve been inspired with this blog.

  2. I love this design and am interested in something similar for my kitchen but am having trouble finding the pewter or stainless harlequins for the center. Where can I get these?

  3. If you are in the Lehigh Valley area, I recommend H. Winter Tile, of coarse! However, if you are not in the PA area, you may want to browse a local tile showroom. A showroom that supplies strickly tile will usually have the biggest selection and the most unusual choices to obtain a look that is uniquely you.
